With regard to the tragic bus accident that occurred yesterday in Freginals (Montsià), and in keeping with procedural processes as they stand at this time, the University of Barcelona would like to make the following statement:

  • - The University of Barcelona has asked to attend the open proceedings of Court of Instruction number 3 of the city of Amposta in order to provide support to those affected by the accident and to offer assistance to the court in identifying the victims for the purpose of expediting any subsequent processes of repatriation to the greatest extent possible.
  • - The University of Barcelona as a whole wishes to express its heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming response of support it has received and for the attendance of the countryʼs highest officials at the memorial service for the 13 deceased students, held this morning at the Historic Building on Plaça de la Universitat. The University also extends its thanks to the hundreds of individuals who took the time to express their condolences in the lobby area of this building, and to the universities in Catalonia and all over the country that held memorial functions for the victims. This space for mourning will remain open until Wednesday, 23 March, from 8 am until 10 pm.
  • Finally, the University of Barcelona will continue to put itself at the service of its students and their families to resolve any questions or attend to any requests they might have, as the rector, Dídac Ramírez, and the Vice-Rector for International Policy, Maria Callejón, did it yesterday, and the General Secretary, Isabel Miralles, the Vice-Rector for Academic Policy, Students and Quality, Gaspar Rosselló; The Vice-Rector for Communication and Projection, Pere Quetglas, and the Dean of Economics Faculty, Elisenda Paluzie, have done today.
