New sessions for the show “Pius Font i Quer, passió per la botànica”
The project Theatrum Sapientiae, which dedicates this yearsʼ edition to the botanist Pius Font i Quer, has scheduled new sessions of Pius Font i Quer, passió per la botànica in May, June and July. The play shows the life of this vocational botanist who, despite being a chemist, when he was twenty years old, discovered his true passion after attending a course by Doctor Manuel Llenas: it was studying plants and sharing this knowledge. He was the author of, among other books, Plantas Medicinales. El DIoscórides renovado and Diccionario de la botánica, his scientific work meant a great advancement for the Catalan and Spanish botanics. Regarding education, his pedagogue, passionate and rigorous methodology created education, and projects launched by him such as the Botanic Institute, the Botanic Garden in Montjuic and the Flora of Catalan Countries, which were continued by his students and disciples.

The days to see the show are May 20 and 27, June 3 and 17, and July 1. All sessions will take place in the room 110 of the Historical Building of the University of Barcelona (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585, Barcelona) at 18h. Attendance is free but pre-registration via online form is required.
The play shows the moment in which Pius Font i Quer is released from prison, after two years of reclusion, accompanied by his wife Emilia. She is the one who actually tells the story to the audience, while she waits for his release. Using flashbacks in several moments, there are lots of episodes of his professional career.
The scientific advising in this activity Pius Font i Quer, passió per la botànica has been transmited by the experts of the University of Barcelona Ramon Maria Masalles and Josep Vigo (Faculty of Biology), Joan Vallès Xirau (Faculty of Pharmacy), as well as Roser Guàrdia Rúbies (Documentation Centre for Vegetal Biodiversity).
This activity has the goal of bringing closer Catalan distinguished scientists to society. With this theatrical guided experience, the audience in Theatrum Sapientiae discovers personal and professional traits of an important person while they get to know the research and knowledge generated at the University. This is the third show of the project Theatrum Sapientiae, which started in 2013 with Ramon Margalef I lʼaventura de la vida and which made Jordi Rubió i lʼesperit del llibre in 2014.
