The 5th Environmental Conference, organized by the University of Barcelona, Cellers Torres and the meteorologist and teacher of the same University Tomàs Molina, will gather -next Monday May 23- international experts to debate on the necessity of a global change not only based on technology as a solution to the ecological problem. The Minister of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan government), Josep Rull, will be in charge of closing the conference under the logo “The solution for global change is not only about technology”.

The 5th Environmental Conference, organized by the University of Barcelona, Cellers Torres and the meteorologist and teacher of the same University Tomàs Molina, will gather -next Monday May 23- international experts to debate on the necessity of a global change not only based on technology as a solution to the ecological problem. The Minister of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalan government), Josep Rull, will be in charge of closing the conference under the logo “The solution for global change is not only about technology”.

Climate change is a worldwide problem, more extended in developing countries. The speakers will touch on this topic from several perspectives, introducing that the possible solutions go through a social, cultural and economic change, with commitment policies which allow preserving the planetʼs health so it can be enjoyed by future generations.

The Environment Conference is organized around four speeches and a debate table, chaired by the journalist Xavier Coral. The speakers are Christian Felber, Austrian father of the economy for the common good, cofounder of the Bank for the Common Good and author of Salvemos el Euro and Dinero, de fin a medio; Teresa Ribera, Director of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and International Relations (IDDRI) in Paris; Federico Demaria, researcher of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of UAB and co-editor of the book Decreixement: un Vocabulari per una Nova Era, and Norbert Bilbeny, Professor of Ethics at the University of Barcelona.

The debate table will be formed by, a part from the speakers, Joan Carrera, graduated in Medicine, Theology and teacher of Fundamental ethics, and Aida Vila, responsible of Greenpeace Climate campaign for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The opening will be done by Jordi Serra, the rectorʼs Delegate of the University of Barcelona for Sustainability; Miguel A. Torres, President of Cellers Torres, and Tomàs Molina, Scientific Director of the Environmental Conference and teacher at the University of Barcelona.

In this conference the 3rd Torres & Earth Award for Environmental Innovation will be given in order to know and award the studies, projects, experiences and initiatives that work on the preservation of the environment.

The Environment Conference has the collaboration of Greenpeace and will be held in Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona from 9 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon. Entrance is free; pre-registration can be filled in www.jornadesambientals.com
