The rector of the University of Barcelona, Dídac Ramírez, and the rector of the Sapienza University, Eugenio Gaudio, signed a collaboration agreement between both institutions to strengthen scientific, pedagogical and technical exchanges in all university areas. This agreement, which widens and deepens the existing cooperation, will enable a major presence and dynamization of the offerings and activities of each institution within the other. It will -among other things- promote the exchange of lecturers, researchers and students, the forming of joint research teams and the collaboration in projects and studies in the Mediterranean field.

The agreement intends to collaborate in the development of courses that allow obtaining joint titles in areas of common interest such as medicine, biotechnology, food sciences, international cooperation, archaeology or psychology, among other subjects. Therefore, the agreement predicts a joint collaboration in conferences, seminars, colloquiums, exhibitions and other activities organized by any of these institutions.

The agreement was signed during the visit of the delegation of La Sapienza at the University of Barcelona, formed by Eugenio Gaudio, the Rector; Luciano Saso, the rectorʼs Delegate in European University Network; Teodoro Valente, from Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer, and Tiziana Pascucci, delegate at Right to Study and Quality Didactics. All of them were welcomed by the Rector Dídac Ramírez together with the Vice-Rector of Internationalization Policies María Callejón; the Vice-Rector for Academic Policies, Students and Quality, Gaspar Rosselló, and the Vice-Rector of Teaching Staff, Ricardo Piqueras, among others.

During the visit, they had a work meeting to debate on future agreements. Among the closest objectives, they want to double the number of international students between both universities -which is now around thirty-; intensify relations between both summer schools -developing joint programs and student exchange programs- and work on the creation of dual-degrees -such as one in nanotechnology. Therefore, in early November, there will be a researchers meeting in the areas of Archaeology, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Nutrition, Biocomputing and Fine Arts.

Both universities, which stand out in their countries due to their position in research and education, are committed to the Mediterranean and European history and society.
