Jaume Bosch i Genover, professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, will be invested Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania (Romania) in an academic event that will be held next November 24.

Professor Bosch is recognized by his task in the field of hepatology and, in particular, in the analysis of portal hypertension and hemodynamic disorders related to hepatic illnesses. Portal hypertension, the first cause for liver transplant in cirrhosis, is also the first cause of death in patients with this illness. The contributions of Dr. Bosch allowed discovering new therapeutic targets that were added to the clinical practice and reduced mortality related to this illness from 50% to less than 20% in the last two decades. In his laboratory, internationally known, he trained many scientists from around the world and promoted translational research and Spanish hepatology.

He has received many distinctions for his achievements, among which there are the Special Recognition of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (2006), the Gold Medal of the Canadian Association for the Study of the Liver and the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (2012), the Biomedical Research Award of Lilly Foundation (2013) and the honorary doctorate by the Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier (2014).
