The V International Academic Symposium of IEB on the energy sector analyses challenges in technology, markets and sustainability
On February 7, the V International Symposium of the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB) of the UB on the challenges in the energy sector took place. The event was opened by the rector of the UB, Joan Elias, with the participation of the director of IEB, Martí Parellada, and the director of the Chair of Energy Sustainability, Maria Teresa Costa Campi. The researchers who took part in the event, which was held at the Barcelona Science Park, put in common that technology, markets and sustainability will be the challenges for the energy sector over the coming years. The previous day, the Foundation for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (FUNSEAM), which analyzes and shares the results of the research of the Chair of Energy Sustainability of the UB, had also organized its V International Symposium with the participation from public officers and businesspeople from the main firms of this sector.

The IEB symposium included -among the speakers- Tooraj Jamasb, from the Business School of Durham University, who talked about smart electricity distribution networks, and Luis Cabral, from the New York University, who dedicated his speech to the last researches on industrial organization and uses on the energy sector, energy and markets and energy, and environmental policy. The different conferences touched on aspects such as the necessary changes on power marketers, the complementarity of all energies and the consumer being more active part as a tendency.
