Mare Nostrum. Solidaritat local, diàleg i construcció plural de la pau des de lʼexili has a length of one year and its aim is to contribute to add a multidimensional view of refugees in local entities to legitimize peace rights and to build it. The project includes three fields of action: training teachers, aimed at the local entities and local public administration; the analysis and dissemination of the conflict through Solidarity Observatory and a photograph exhibition, and the creation of a guideline of good practices on the role of the local world in the processes of peace construction and post-conflict reconstruction.

Mare Nostrum is part of the 2015 grant call for sensitization and education for the development in the supporting campaign of refugeesʼ sheltering in Europe, victims of the armed conflicts in the Mediterranean area. Also, this is one of the projects promoted by the University of Barcelona in the supporting program for refugees and people coming from conflict areas, coordinated by the UB Solidarity Foundation. In this program, and in an agreement with the Barcelona City Council, there is a course in bachelor studies, currently taken by fifteen Syrian and Afghan students, aged between 18 and 24. The realization of this course includes the accommodation for these young refugees, since the end of the academic year 2015-2016, in the university residences of Penyafort-Montserrat and Ramon Llull of the University of Barcelona, where they are full students and develop and participate in all the activities of the centers.
