The University of Barcelona participates once more in Saló de l'Ensenyament (Education Fair)
The University of Barcelona presents its educational offering for the academic year 2017-2018, both for bachelor and master degrees as well as postgraduate studies, at the Saló de lʼEnsenyament and Saló Futura. Both fairs are taking place these days in the fair area of Montjuïc during the Education and Work Week.

Consolidation of the bachelor degree offerings
Once more, the UB is attending Saló de lʼEnsenyament, the main window for education in Catalonia, which this year takes place from March 22 to 26. As usual, the UB has an own stand to share its academic offerings on bachelor degrees, apart from two other stands in Espai Ciència to share the research and innovation carried out at the University.
Next year, the UB will keep and consolidate its current academic offering with 73 bachelor degrees, covering all knowledge fields: Humanities, Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences and Education. A large, diverse and high-quality offer which lists the UB as leading university in Spain in the main international rankings. Studying at the UB means learning in the best university of the country, according to the two main rankings that assess centers worldwide: Academic Ranking of World Universities (the UB holds the 175 position worldwide) and QS World University Rankings (160 position). In addition, the results obtained in the QS World University Rankings 2017 by Subject listed the UB among the top 100 universities worldwide in 18 out of the 46 disciplines of knowledge that were analysed. The best positions are in Archaeology, Philosophy, Anatomy and Physiology.
The UBʼs performance rate -the relation between passed credits out of the enrolled ones- is 84% in bachelor degrees (2015-2016). Employability is also high: according to the QS Graduate Employability Rankings, the UB is listed among the top 70 universities worldwide in the graduatesʼ labor market integration. This is no news for the future students, who each year list the UB as the most demanded Catalan university. For example, in the academic year 2016-2017, a total of 14.729 new students chose the UB as their first option.
Saló Futura
At the same time the Saló de lʼEnsenyament is taking place, the UB participates -once more- in Saló Futura, which will take place on March 24 and 25. It will show its wide and diverse range of official university master degrees and UB-specific postgraduate studies for the academic year 2016-2017. In the same lines, the figures are similar to last yearsʼ. The offer includes more than 150 university master degrees from different knowledge areas, as well as 400 UB-specific degrees aimed at university graduates interested in advanced training to get an academic and professional specialization.
In order to share this offer with the people, on Saturday March 25 the University will give two 30-minute informative sessions at the Speakerʼs Corner in Saló Futura. At 11.30, Miquel Esteban Cortada, professor of Analytical Chemistry and coordinator of the master degree in Quality in Analytical Laboratories - Erasmus Mundus (EMQAL) will give the conference “Ves més enllà. Els Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree a la Universitat de Barcelona”. And at 17h the conference “La formació postgraduada a la Universitat de Barcelona” will take place, by Òscar Mascarilla, tenured lecturer from the Department of Economics and coordinator of Programs of the Postgraduate studies Agency of the University.
UB stand at Saló de lʼEnsenyament
The stand of the UB at Saló de lʼEnsenyament is placed at the entrance of pavilion 2. The stand covers an area of 120 square meters, which reach the 220 with the two affiliated centers: the University School of Hotel Management and Tourism (CETT) and the School of New Interactive Technologies (ENTI), to which the Complementary Training Area (School of Modern Languages) is now added too. The UB stand is designed to ease personalized support to visitors. Each of the information points belongs to a center and lists the bachelor degrees taught in each center, apart from a specific place to give information on the bachelor degrees in Engineering offered by the University. Also, the information points of the Escola Superior de Comerç i Distribució (School of Commerce and Distribution, ESCODI), the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC), the University Nursing School Sant Joan de Déu and the School of Public Relations. Also, the University School of Cinema and Visual Communication of Catalonia (ESCAC) and the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia (INEFC), UB-affiliated centers, have another stand.
Apart from exposing the academic offering for the 72 bachelor degrees and services of the academic year 2017-2018, the stand also offers visitors information about the University. Apart from the direct information provided by the stand, young students can find personalized support and information. Around seventy members of the University will receive specialized requests from the visitors. Also, like in previous editions, a representative of Barcelona Activa will give information about professional careers to students.
Information sheets will be handed in for each one of the centers. A total of 17 sheets were printed, one per faculty, and another including the academic offering of the UB-affiliated centers. There is another one listing the names of all bachelor degrees, categorized under their area of knowledge, and a specific one with all degrees in engineering.
This year, under the motto “Your University”, leaflets with information have a QR code so that students can access, through their phones, a specific website of the UB gathering information on the services, online resources, activities for high schools and scientific dissemination, among other information of interest.
School of Modern Languages, with an own stand
Language acquisition is an important part of education and future professional projection for the young students. Therefore, the School of Modern Languages (EIM) is participating in the fair with an own stand. Students can get information of the EIM course offerings, where students can find the English summer courses for high school students. Also, the stand offers language test levels so that students can assess their knowledge of a third language (English, German, French and Italian). Registrations for this test, free of charge, can be made at the stand or via EIMʼs website, while the fair is on. The participants will enter a lucky draw to win a trip to a European capital and an online dictionary (CASIO EXWORD S4000E). The draw will take place on March 31, at 10h.
Other activities: sport competitions and castellers workshops
Saló de lʼensenyament also offers sport activities and workshops on castellers. From March 22 to 26, Esports UB will set a basketball court and canopies at plaça de lʼUnivers to offer sport activities. The most distinguished ones are the Basket 3x3 Catalan University Competitions (womenʼs competition is on Wednesday, March 22, from 10 to 13h; and menʼs on Thursday 23 from 10 to 13h), and the womenʼs basketball University League of Barcelona (Friday, March 24). Moreover, there will be the presentation of baskin, an adaptation of basketball for people will different disabilities (Saturday, March 25 from 10 to 13h). This activity is part of the European project Baskin at University, which offers university students the possibility of playing an inclusive game with young people with disabilities and share this experience with students from other countries. Conducted by the University of Barcelona together with the universities of Lyon 1 and Milano-Bicocca, the project enabled the UB to found the team Baskin Mundet, during the academic year 2013-2014 with the support of the Faculty of Education and Esports UB. This year, a group of students of the bachelor degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CAFÉ) of Blanquerna-URL has joined in.
The team of castellers of the UB and UPC, Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària, takes place for the first time in the fair with two workshops: on Wednesday 22 and Friday 24. The aim is to bring their activity closer to the audience: the values, evolution and traits of this activity, as well as learning the first steps.
La UB Divulga, at Espai Ciència
Last, La UB Divulga is again present at Espai Ciència in Saló de lʼEnsenyament. Visitors will discover the research and innovation carried out by some research groups of the University of Barcelona, each from different knowledge areas such as Physics, Biology, Psychology or Law. Several researchers will show and share their researchers through interactive activities and workshops, such as demonstrations and experiments, to promote the interest in science and technology among youngsters. “APPropaʼt al riu amb RIU.net. La qualitat ecològica dels rius”, “La missió Gaia arriba a lʼEspai Ciència”, “Del món real al món virtual” or “Els sentits I lʼalimentació” are only some of the workshops that will take place.
