Launch of TO-INN, an Erasmus+ project to improve teacher training centres in Latin America
From the 20th to the 23rd of March, the University of Barcelona will hold the opening meetings of the European project From tradition to innovation in teacher training institutions (TO-INN), subsidized by the fund Erasmus+ Capacity Building in the field of higher education. The project aims to improve the social dimension, teaching innovation, curricula content and university policies of the teacher training centers for Latin American teachers. Led by Alejandra Montané, lecturer at the Faculty of Education of the UB, the project counts with the collaboration of six European institutions: apart from the University of Barcelona, other participants are the University of Winchester, University of Amsterdam, Lusófona University (Portugal), University of Valencia and the Institute of Psychological Sciences of Education and Training (SPEF, Italy). There are other sixteen Latin American universities taking part in the project, from Colombia, Argentina, Honduras, Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay.

The welcoming ceremony will be chaired by the Rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Elias, on Monday March 20, at 18.30 h, in the Paranimph of the Historical Building. On March 21, the Sala de Graus of the Faculty of Education (Mundet campus, Llevant building) will hold the opening conference of the meeting, entitled “El profesorado hoy: Viejas seguridades, nuevas incertidumbres”, given by José Gimeno Sacristán, professor of Education at the University of Valencia.
These meetings are the first step of a project that, with the improvement on teacher training in Latin America, aims to contribute to social and economic improvement in these countries.
The projects results from the Group of Teacher Training and Pedagogical Innovation (FODIP) of the UB, coordinated by Francesc Imbernon, lecturer of Teaching and Learning and Educational Organization. According to Alejandra Montané, main researcher of the project, “the group has a lot of experience in collaboration, training and research with Latin America”. Out of this close relation, and thanks to having shared previous projects with Latin America “we feel the need to act in innovation and research with the universities of the region that work on Pedagogy”, says Montané, who also highlights that “European universities taking part in the project have experience in collaboration projects with the UB and Latin America”.
