"Here you have the opportunity of attracting talent". With these words, Joan Elias, Rector of the University of Barcelona, welcomed the representatives from the participating entities and companies in the new edition of the Business Fair, which took place on May 3, and was organized by the Science and Engineering Area of the UB, which includes the faculties of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Earth Sciences, apart from the additional participation of the Faculty of Biology.

Elias highlighted the fact that such a fair is a great opportunity for the students, since it allows them to see “the internal logic of the companies”. In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Physics, Atilà Herms, said that although the employability of the studentsʼ profile is high, this fair aims to “be equally good”, and emphasized the high level of the participating companies.

This year, around five hundred students registered to attend the Business Fair. The previous workshops -organized by Feina UB (Student Support Services) to help students prepare their résumés and hand them in at the fair- counted with a participation of 115 students. The people in Feina UB said that the students value this previous training which allows them to understand what a fair is and where they learn to hand in a résumé and talk to the representatives of the companies. “In this personalized workshops the students notice the importance of a preparation when it comes to personal skills, and understand the need of completing the expertized training with social skills” they said.

In these lines, the company Grífols, one of the nine sponsoring firms that organized the café colloquiums (with 140 registered students) assures that one of the aims of the activity is the search for these transverse skills, among which teamwork, innovation or personal ambition stand out.

In the fair, around 150 students took part in workshops to prepare a job interview or learn how to work on an elevator pitch, a short and impacting presentation for the studentʼs candidacy.
