Presentation of ʻThe sound sculptures of Bernard and François Baschetʼ in Can Jaumandreu

The Humanities and Social Sciences Park (Can Jaumandreu) held yesterday, Thursday April 20, the presentation of the book The sound sculptures of Bernard and François Baschet, by François Bashet, edited by Martí Ruiz, coordinator of the Workshop on Baschet Sound Sculpture of the UB.

In this book, regarded as an essential piece in history of art, François Baschet narrates the experience of the Baschet brothers as pioneers in the research and creation of musical instruments and sound sculptures combining art and science, sculpture and music. This edition by Martí Ruiz, expert in the work by the Baschets, shares the particular concept of acoustics François Baschet had -a method to understand the essential relations between shape, materials, action and sound-, which gave birth to the invention of hundreds of instruments and sound sculptures in all shapes and sounds, now spread worldwide. Editions and Publications of the UB has published a trilingual edition of this work which will soon be available in digital format (eBook).

The presentation counted with the participation of the Vice-Rector for Arts, Culture and Heritage of the UB, Salvador García Fortes; the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, M. Dolors Tapias; the Director of the Barcelona Museum of Music, Jaume Ayats, and the Editor of the book, Martí Ruiz. The presentation will be followed by a visit to the Baschet sound sculptures in the Park.

On Saint Georgeʼs Day, Martí Ruiz will be at the book stand of Editions and Publications of the UB from 11 to 12 h (corner in rambla de Catalunya with Provença). He will sign copies of the book and will give a brief opening concert with a sound sculpture.
