The Institute of Biomedicine (IBUB) was founded in September 2006 for basic biomedical research. It provides an interactive framework for scientists from different fields to conduct multidisciplinary, integrated research in biomedicine.
The IBUB’s objectives are:
- to generate knowledge of biological systems using an integrative approach to identify therapeutic targets and to design bioactive molecules with therapeutic potential;
- to generate advances in the community’s quality of life and health that have an international scope, and to work within a framework of sustainability and high ethical standards;
- to act as a quality centre for biological research training, and thus maintain the Institute’s founding mission to bring together UB researchers from the Faculties of Biology, Chemistry and Pharmacy.
