The Faculty of Economics and Business was created on 29 July 2009 from the fusion of the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences and the University School of Business Studies. This marked the culmination of a process initiated two and a half years earlier, when the UB began its process of adaptation to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area.

The new Faculty offers advanced studies in economics and business and in related aspects of sociology and statistics, as well as overseeing research across all of these subject areas. The Faculty of Economics and Business has built on the experience of its predecessors to become a benchmark in Catalonia, Spain and Europe for academic quality and for economic and business research.
