Dr Germà Bel (university professor at the Department of Economic Policy and World Economic Structure) has been honoured with the Economics Prize of Catalonia, which is granted every two years by the Catalan Economics Society of the Institute of Catalan Studies and sponsored by Catalunya Caixa. Dr Bel received the prize for his work Espanya, capital París (Spain, Capital Paris).
Dr Germà Bel holds an MA in Economics from Chicago University. From 1987 to 1990 he received a Fulbright scholarship and a research grant from the Ministry of Education. From 1990 to 1993 he was advisor at the Ministry of Public Administration and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. In the Spanish general elections of 2000, Dr Bel was elected representative for the city of Barcelona.
