On 3 September 1450, a royal privilege from Alfonso the Magnanimous gave rise to the birth of the University of Barcelona. Baptized at that time as the Studium Generale of the City of Barcelona, it initially comprised the faculties of Philosophy and Arts, Law, Medicine and Theology.
575 years later, the University of Barcelona is the academic institution with the longest historical trajectory in Catalonia. It is also the foremost university in terms of the number of students and the training offered, it leads most university rankings and participates in the main international university alliances.
575 years of leadership and commitment
With 575 years of history, the University of Barcelona is a leader in the state in academic offerings and research, according to the main international rankings. This leadership serves society with a global perspective and solid values: equality, inclusion, sustainability and critical thinking.

The 575th anniversary aims to generate awareness of the university community and a sense of belonging among its members, and mobilize all faculties, departments, research groups, units, and so on. We have been breaking the boundaries of knowledge and transforming the world around us for 575 years.
575 years at the service of citizens and responding to social, economic and political challenges
575 years promoting the Catalan language and culture, and forming an indissoluble part of Europe. The University of Barcelona's commitment to the European values of justice, freedom and equality has been unwavered for more than five centuries.
It is an anniversary in which everyone is a protagonist and which should serve to showcase the diversity and richness of the UB community: students; teaching staff; technical, management, and administrative and service staff; alumni, and the local community. A celebration open to the public, with the aim of making the UB the people's university.
A university on the move
The commemorative logo is based on the physical elements of the University — such as stone, glass, the coat of arms or the Barcelona flag — to connect them with the digital and intangible world. Based on the UB coat of arms, a new, dynamic and flexible image is created, which is transformed without losing its roots or its link to the present.
The image of 575 positions the UB as an institution with prestige and history, but with an avant-garde outlook. It reflects a leading university, transformative and connected to the world, which at the same time preserves its founding values. This is the UB of 575.
