The Barcelona Institute of Analytic Philosophy (BIAP) was established in 2016 as an inter-university institute dedicated to bringing together analytic philosophers from the University of Barcelona, the Pompeu Fabra University and the University of Girona, and to strengthen our existing collaborations in teaching and research, and to promote and improve the practice of analytic philosophy in Catalunya.
In December 2022, the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation recognized BIAP as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence, a status conferred for 5 years and involving award of a €2M grant for a 4-year collaborative research project on the nature and role of evidence.
As the first María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence in a traditional humanities discipline, BIAP intends to increase awareness of the value that philosophical thinking can bring to the solution of current problems, including problems in the sciences and in society at large.
