PhD position in Neurophysiology of Singing

The Brainlab – Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group (University of Barcelona) invites applications for a 3+1 year PhD contract commencing in spring/fall 2026.
The PhD thesis will be carried out within the research line of Coherent oscillations at pitch rates in sensorimotor integration and voice production. Principal Investigator: Dr. Jordi Costa-Faidella.
The student will join the recently awarded project Long-range Coherent Neuronal Oscillations at Voice Pitch Frequencies: A Core Neurophysiological Communication Mechanism in Phonatory Control, financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science, to investigate the neurophysiology of larynx control during phonation using electrophysiological measures (M/EEG, sHDEMG) and state-of-the-art source reconstruction methods in healthy volunteers.
We are seeking a talented and highly motivated graduate in any field related to Neuroscience (Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, Computer Sciences, Medicine, Biology, Engineering, Physics), willing to work hard and travel across the world as part of their training.
Requirements:
1) EU citizenship
2) 300 ECTS completed (at least 60 ECTS in a Master degree)
3) computer skills (Matlab, Python)
4) high academic marks
5) experience in M/EEG (oscillatory dynamics; source reconstruction), as well as musical training (singing especially) are a plus
The successful candidate will join either the PhD Program in Biomedicine (area of Neuroscience) or the PhD Program in Brain, Cognition and Behavior, and will be fully integrated in the scientific activities of the Brainlab and the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence Institute of Neurosciences at the University of Barcelona.
