Yonca received her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Koç University in 2013. Then she moved to Sabancı University, where she joined the research group of Assoc. Prof. Fevzi Cakmak Cebeci to pursue her PhD (2013-2019). In summer 2019, she has successfully defended her PhD entitled “Functional Thin Film Coatings of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines by Layer-by-Layer Assembly”, which was fully funded by TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). In Sabancı University, she also worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Assoc. Prof. Cebeci until the end of 2019. Following a maternity leave for almost a year, she moved to the Universidad de Barcelona in 2020 and joined the group of Prof. Puigmartí-Luis as a postdoctoral researcher.

During her PhD, her interests were the engineering and development of novel thin film coatings by layer-by-layer self-assembly for multiple application purposes such as corrosion protection and photodynamic therapy, where controlled deposition of mainly porphyrinoids and polyelectrolytes in nanometer-scale was performed. Currently, her research is focused on design and development of novel microfluidic technology, which will enable the formation of compositional gradients in 2D and 3D.
