The transition in Catalonia through the television documentary days of transition (2004)

INTRODUCTION

The present research work of second year of PhD, responds to the concerns that have arisen as a result of the presentation of the documentary series Days of transition, which issued Televisió de Catalunya in the year 2004. In that same year, I attended as a student in the course of the transition in Spain and Catalonia (VI): education, culture and politics, which led to a special attention to this historical period. Adding these two facts emerged the idea of this work.

JUSTIFICATION

We decided to analyse these documentaries because from a public television and during “prime time”, thus reaching much of the population, is or is intended to explain the process of transition from a dictatorship to a democracy that was in Spain focusing attention to Catalonia.

Journalistic-type work, rather than historical, but interesting to analyze because fixed ideas, proposes a chronology, collects facts and people.

And it does so with the intention of giving or presenting the different actors and social sectors that took part in the so-called Spanish transition. Transition days presents the events of a more horizontal and not so vertical and the documentary series La Transición Militar española (1995), Victoria Prego.

METHODOLOGY

The methodology used is the screening and study of sixteen documentaries that were broadcast to TVC, according to the contextual analysis of the proposed film by Marc Ferro and largely follows the Film Research Centre-history of the University of Barcelona.
