Teacher in Primary Education

What you will learn

Being a primary school teacher involves contributing to the physical and motor, emotional, communicative, social and cognitive development of children from six to twelve years of age. It implies supporting their learning and development thanks to the design of educational situations prepared for this purpose and the teacher’s involvement therein, in a climate of safety and trust at all times. To educate is to offer opportunities across the board, at the intellectual, emotional, physical, artistic and cultural levels. Our commitment to social improvement therefore involves preserving and nurturing children’s creativity and critical thinking.

Primary school teachers have a broad spectrum of career opportunities. Besides practising as a primary school teacher in public, private and state-subsidised schools, there is also the option of working in the departments of educational bodies and institutions such as zoos, museums, parks and theatres: developing and appraising educational, social and artistic initiatives, designing materials and programmes (text books, material to facilitate teaching, computer programmes, etc.) and contributing to progress and innovation at all times.

For the above reason, the Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education boasts a high rate of employment among its graduates.

Being a teacher is a profession of tremendous social responsibility and, therefore, calls for a high level of professional training. The University of Barcelona, ranked among the top one hundred universities in the world, offers this four-year degree, with the possibility of pursuing specialisations in Attention to Diversity, School Libraries, Music Education, Curricular Enrichment, Visual and Plastic Arts Education, Physical Education, Digital Technologies for Learning, Communication and Expression, and Foreign Languages (English).

The Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education is one of the most interesting and stimulating options for those students who wish to work in the many different fields of education, educational innovation, research and the development of teaching materials.
