4th Catalan Congress of Anthropology

As part of the 4th Catalan Congress of Anthropology, held on 28, 29 and 30 January 2026 in Barcelona, the oral presentation “Beyond expert knowledge: exploring the Peer Support Worker as an embodied figure of epistemic justice in mental health” was delivered.

The presentation examined the role of peer support in mental health from a critical and anthropological perspective, foregrounding epistemic justice and the recognition of situated and experiential forms of knowledge held by people with lived experience of psychosocial distress. Within this framework, preliminary findings from a qualitative evaluation of the Functional Recovery and Life Project Units (UFRPV) were presented. This pilot programme in Catalonia focuses on the transformation of medium- and long-stay mental health services.
