Dr. Marién Durán is a Senior Lecturer of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the University of Granada (Spain), where she is also director and lecturer of the Master of Strategic Thinking and Global Security.

She studied her bachelor’s degree at the Universities of Granada, Bologna University (Forli Campus) and University of Exeter. She obtained her European PhD at the University of Granada
Dr. Duran has been a visiting researcher at the following Universities and research Centres where she spent some months: London School of Economics and Politics in the Cañada Blanch Centre for Contemporary Spanish Studies (EU Institute) and in the Centre for the Study of the Global Governance, LSE (2005, 2006); Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (Oslo) (2005); University of Bogaçizi (Istanbul) (July 2007, October 2009); University Autonomous of Madrid (2009, 2012) and the Department of War Studies, King’s College (February-July 2019) and the Center for International Studies, Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford (February-July 2022 and 2023).

She has participated in multiple national and international projects related to her research lines (international security, contemporary armed conflicts and conflict resolution, civil-military relations, Spanish Armed Forces and international missions) and the political systems in Middle East (especially Turkey).

Currently, she is participating in a research and development project financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science , Innovation and University, titled “Rethinking the Role of the Armed Forces in the Face of New Security Challenges”. This is an ambitious project, with the participation of numerous researchers of different Spanish universities.
