Tiago VelosoU. Barcelona
After briefly studying Physics, I switched to a BA in Philosophy at University of Porto (2020-2023), followed by a MA in Contemporary Philosophy at the same institution, which I concluded in 2025. During this time, I developed different projects, mainly in Epistemolgy, but I also became interested in Logic, Philosophy of Math and Philosophy of Language. My thesis was on Crispin Wright's epistemic reading of Wittgenstein's hinge propositions, proposing a new perspective where this reading is easily connected to other themes relating to certainty as a higher form of knowledge, a popular view in epistemology.
My PhD focuses on Epistemic Luck. I'm particularly fond of Duncan Pritchard's view on luck, even though it faces objections involving necessary truths. My proposal is to study the affinities between these objections and the original lucky scenarios Pritchard has correctly described in the past, in order to find a new and unproblematic concept of luck. My project is supervised by Professor Fernando Broncano-Berrocal (University of Barcelona) and Professor Jesús Navarro (University of Seville).
I'm a recipient of a PhD in Humanities, from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which allows me to study in Barcelona.
