Personalize learning to make sense and motivate students

César Coll, professor of Psychology at the UB, pointed out some problems and challenges of the school within the framework of the presentation Alianza Educación 360. Once the lack of enthusiasm of the children and the lack of connection between what they do in the classroom and in life are confirmed, it is imperative to remedy it. As the teacher explains, the school breaks with many of the dynamics and routines which children are accustomed to (inflexible schedules, rules of conduct, expectations, punishments …), widening the distance that separates school from education.

In this sense, the personalization of learning can become a key element to combat “the lack of meaning” that often surrounds teaching. Precisely, Coll highlights the need to link what is done inside the classroom with the experience of each one, appealing to individual motivation that increases the commitment to the task (when it is of your interest). The school, despite the current demand for quantitative data to support its pedagogy, should focus on those aspects that are priorities for children: motivation in the face of challenges, learning to read and write optimally, listening to classmates, etc.
