Research Projects
“Masculinidades vulnerables y normatividad en las narrativas estadounidenses 1783–1929” (2023-2027)
From September 2023 to August 2027, this four-year project, led by Teresa Requena-Pelegrí and funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (PID2022-140375NB-I00), investigates representations of vulnerable masculinities in U.S. literature from the post-Revolutionary period through the early 20th century.
“Construint noves masculinitats: Representacions culturals i lingüístiques” (2022-2025)
Launched in January 2022 and running until June 2025, this project (2021 SGR 00272) is supported by the Ajuts de Suport als Grups de Recerca de Catalunya, funded by AGAUR, with Teresa Requena-Pelegrí as Principal Investigator. The research explores the cultural and linguistic construction of masculinities, aiming to challenge and redefine normative gender discourses.
“Gendering Age: Representations of Masculinities and Ageing in Contemporary European Literatures and Cinemas” (2019-2022)
From March 2019 to March 2022, this international research initiative, funded by the European Union under the GENDER NET Plus programme (GNP-9), was directed by Josep M.ª Armengol. The project examined how ageing masculinities are represented across contemporary European literatures and cinemas, addressing the intersections of gender, age, and cultural identity in the context of demographic transformation and social change.
“L’Enfoc de noves masculinitats: visibilitzant i construint identitats respectuoses amb la igualtat de gènere” (2021)
Beginning in January 2021, this collaborative initiative coordinated by Teresa Requena-Pelegrí and supported by Acción contra el Hambre focused on making visible and constructing respectful masculinities aligned with gender equality. The project promoted transformative masculinities within diverse contexts.
“Construint noves masculinitats: representacions culturals i transferències socials” (2017-2021)
From January 2017 to September 2021, this research project was supported by the Ajuts de Suport als Grups de Recerca de Catalunya (2017SGR830), funded by the Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca (AGAUR), with Teresa Requena-Pelegrí as Principal Investigator. The project explored how cultural representations of masculinities intersect with evolving social dynamics, aiming to analyze and transfer new models of masculinity into broader societal frameworks.
“LIFE Palestina: Promoure la inclusió de les dones i els joves en la consolidació per la pau” (2018)
Conducted from January 2018 to December 2019, this cooperation project led by Natàlia Anguera Ruiz and funded by the Agència Catalana de Cooperació al Desenvolupament (ACCD) aimed to foster peacebuilding in Palestine by promoting the inclusion of women and youth.
“¿No es país para viejos? Representaciones de masculinidad y envejecimiento en la narrativa estadounidense contemporánea” (2017-2019)
Between January 2017 and December 2019, this project, led by Josep M.ª Armengol and funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (FFI2016-74826-P), examined contemporary U.S. literature to investigate how narratives of masculinity and aging reflect shifting cultural attitudes and values. The research contributed to rethinking dominant masculine ideals within the context of later life.
