Yesterday evening, the Faculty of Economics and Business, hosted the presentation of UB Business, a new platform that joins research and executive training in business developed at the University of Barcelona. The personalities who participated in the event were: the vice-rector for Research of UB, Jordi Alberch; the secretary for Business and Competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia, Pere Torres; the dean of Faculty of Economics and Business, Elisenda Paluzie, and the professor from the University of Strasbourg Thierry Burger-Helmchen, who is one of the most important European experts on entrepreneurship, creativity and innovative business models.

Yesterday evening, the Faculty of Economics and Business, hosted the presentation of UB Business, a new platform that joins research and executive training in business developed at the University of Barcelona. The personalities who participated in the event were: the vice-rector for Research of UB, Jordi Alberch; the secretary for Business and Competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia, Pere Torres; the dean of Faculty of Economics and Business, Elisenda Paluzie, and the professor from the University of Strasbourg Thierry Burger-Helmchen, who is one of the most important European experts on entrepreneurship, creativity and innovative business models.

The main objective of UB Business is to build a reputation for the excellent research carried out in business fields such as strategy and entrepreneurship, technology and operations management, accounting, finance and marketing. Moreover, the platform aims at helping managers working in Spain willing to improve their professional career. UB researchers develop research projects on diverse fields: entrepreneurship, business innovation, business internationalization, logistics and supply chain management, human resource management, accounting and finance, and marketing and market research.

Regarding education, UB Business offers the masterʼs degree in Business Research, the PhD in Business and the Executive MBA. The master's in Business Research is designed to provide students with advanced training in the research skills, techniques and methodologies they will need to conduct their own research into business and business competitiveness. The PhD in Business enables students to develop high-level research activities in business and management at international level. The master's and the PhD programme attract students from around the world and provide them with a mix that enhances the international approach to academic life at the University, and professionals from the business or the public sector who want to research on any management area in order to add an added value to their professional profile.

The Executive MBA provides experienced professionals (entrepreneurs, businesspeople, general managers and middle-management staff in any company area) with a comprehensive, integrated understanding of the management techniques and executive skills involved in business organization and administration in todayʼs complex, competitive and dynamic market.


Lecture by Thierry Burger-Helmchen

Burguer-Helmchen pronounced the lecture "Innovation managemement: where weʼve been and where weʼre going" during the presentation of UB Business. He is the author of the book The economics of creativity (2013, Routledge). His work collects theories and examples of experiences that contribute to have creative ideas that companies and universities can turn into products and services. The book also analyses the relationship between these two kinds of institutions regarding different types of networks and markets. The book analyses the economic impact of creativity, by examining the relationship between creativity and concepts like technological change, knowledge and network economics.

Jaume Valls, director of the doctoral program in Business of UB, Paloma Miravitlles, director of the master's in Business Research, and Xavier Garcia, director of the Executive MBA, also participated in the presentation of UB Business.
