DBGen, a new spin-off of the University of Barcelona dedicated to the genetic diagnosis of visual pathologies
Humans are visual creatures and vision loss implies a disability that has an impact on the quality of life of those who suffer from it and on their family. Genetics is one of the most important causes of blindness. However, the complexity of ophthalmological diseases makes companies of general genetic diagnoses unable to always reach a level of success in diagnoses. DBGen is a spin-off of the University of Barcelona (UB), created to fill this knowledge gap. The leading team, formed by scientists and academicians, has been dedicated to research on genetics of hereditary blindness for more than 25 years. They have solved difficult cases, designed new diagnostic tools and identified new genes.
