The Governing Council of the University of Barcelona approved today a new regulation on transparency, access to public information and good governance which modifies the existing one and gets in line with the current legislative resolutions. This regulation will favour the legislation of good governance, there will be a more systematic regulation of the rights to access information and the information in the UBʼs Portal de Transparència will be updated.

The secretary-general, Belén Noguera de la Muela, pointed out that this regulation will reinforce the transparency culture that each institution should have, and which has Portal de Transparència as its main tool to share information with society. In fact, one of the main changes out of the approval of this regulation will be the reorganization of this portal of the UB, which will add information on good governance, and rules on transparency or electronic office, among others.

Regarding academics, the new calendar for the bachelorʼs degrees and masterʼs degrees for the academic year 2018/2019 has been approved, as well as a protocol for the access and admission of students who benefit from international protection -to bachelor and master studies and UB-specific degrees.

The vice-rector for Communication and Coordination, Ernest Pons, presented the new regulation for the end-of-studies ceremonies of the UB, which sets the basic guidelines for the graduation ceremonies and will make sure that they adapt to the institutional spaces of the Historical Building. These guidelines aim to make sure all graduation ceremonies follow a pattern and coherence to reinforce the institutional image of the UB.

The Rectorʼs report

During his report, the Rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Elias, talked about the changes that the Rectorʼs Office team has undergone lately. Elias said these changes “look for an improvement” and highlighted that they went for “people who know the institution” regarding the new manager, Oriol Escardíbul, and the director of Human Resources, Miquel Lizandra.

The three new vice-rectors also marked their strategic lines. The vice-rector for Entrepreneurship, Transparency and Innovation, Albert Cirera, highlighted as big project the creation of an incubator at the University of Barcelona and opts for an integrated plan on entrepreneurship aimed at UB students. The vice-rector for Teaching and Research Staff, Josep Batista, reaffirmed his commitment to the launch of promotion policies for the teaching staff of the University of Barcelona. Last, the vice-rector of Communication and Coordination, Ernest Pons, commented on the need to have a communicative strategy through the new communication plan -which is currently being elaborated- and to unify the corporative image.
