The Catalan Government has appointed Joan Corominas president of the Board of Trustees of the University of Barcelona. Corominas held this position as acting president since Salvador Alemany left the position in July 2016.

The Catalan Government has appointed Joan Corominas president of the Board of Trustees of the University of Barcelona. Corominas held this position as acting president since Salvador Alemany left the position in July 2016.

The Rector of the University of Barcelona, Joan Elias, expressed his satisfaction for Corominas to continue as president of the Board of Trustees: “The University of Barcelona needs a strong Board of Trustees to work on making the university present among society. Corominas continuing as president is a step forward”.

The new president of the Board of Trustees, Joan Corominas, stated he is “Glad to take this position, I have been working for years with different governing teams in the University on its improvement and I am more and more convinced the University is important for the development and wellbeing of our society. I intend to promote participation of society and improve integration of the University into its economic, political and social environment”. Corominas joined the Board of Trustees of the UB on September 12, 2000.

Joan Corominas Guerin (Barcelona, 1954) is industrial engineer (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) and coursed the Program on General Management (PDG) in the IESE Business School. At the moment, he is an advisor of Sabadell Consumer Finance and Sabadell-Urquijo Banca Privada.

The Board of Trustees is the body through which civil society takes part in the functioning and governance of universities. It is formed by representatives from the social and economic fields and collaborates with the governing team of the University in defining criteria and priorities of its strategic planning. The president is appointed by the Government and for a 4-year mandate for an only period of the same length.
