Since 2011, open access publications of the University of Barcelona have increased by 17 %, until reaching 27.4 % in 2017 of the total annual publications. These data are shown in the Open Access Observatory (OAO), an initiative launched in 2016 by the UB and UPC to monitor open access in both institutions.

Data from the Observatory gather a notable increase over the five last years regarding open access publications. According to Ignasi Labastida, head of the CRAI Library Research and Innovation Unit of the UB, “with these data we can present future scenarios and analyse them to get the complete transition towards open access”.

The Open Access Week takes place until October 28. It will disseminate and debate on academic content focusing on the open access and related issues. Like every year, the CRAI of the UB takes part in it with several activities, among which is the screening of The paywall. The business of scholarship, a documentary on the need for open access in research and science which questions the capital flowing among profit academic publishers. The screening, jointly organized with the UOC, will take place on October 24 at 5 p.m. in Cinemes Girona. The activity is free but previous registration is required.

Also, CRAI takes part in the second edition of Micro-mooc, which consists of five daily sessions that will be shared via Twitterʼs @moocmicro with the hashtags #oamooc (Catalan) and #oamooc18 (English). Each day, from October 22 to 26, at 10 a.m. and 12 noon, around twenty tweets will be published and there will be a place for debate, doubts and questions in the end.

Here is the information for all activities CRAI organizes on the occasion of the Open Access Week.
