Homines dum docent discunt (Humans learn when they teach) is a quote by Seneca that gives the name to the new award the Faculty of Biology gives to the teaching staff. The award, which is given now for the first time, honors those lecturers that are best valued by the students according to the opinion surveys that are carried out every academic year.

The aim is to promote the improvement of the teaching quality of the center, to recognize the good teaching task of lecturers and to promote the participation of the students in surveys. In all cases, the awardees got an average score of 9 or more in the four items of the survey: general satisfaction with the lecturer, communication and relationship with students, clear diffusion of content and proper realization of tasks as a lecturer. Some elements to consider were: reaching more than 33 % of participation of the enrolled students; global amount of enrolled students in the course being relevant in mandatory and optional courses; and having a similar tendency to the one in the academic year 2017-2018 within the 4-year period of the promotion (2014-2018).

The awardees were the lecturers David Bueno, Javier Casado, Francesc Cebrià, Esther Esteban, Albert Martínez, Maite Muniesa, Antoni Miñarro and Ignasi Ramirez. All of them teach at the Faculty of Biology: Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences and Biomedical Sciences. The awards were given last Friday, November 16, during the graduation ceremony in the Paranimph of the Faculty. The award features a bird with the Faculty of Biology behind it, which the author Martí Franch, former student of the Faculty, ceded.

The Faculty of Economics and Business has also awarded for the first time, an award to the lecturers that got the highest score from the students.
