Bachelorʼs degree in Marine Sciences: a global view on the oceans worldwide

The degree on Marine Sciences consolidate university studies in this field in Catalonia, an academic journey which started years ago with the doctoral program on Marine Sciences and the masterʼs degree in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management.

The new studies, which got an excellent acceptation among students, wants to promote the training of highly skilled professionals with a cross-sectional view of all disciplines in marine sciences, within the distinguished teaching and research tradition of the UB on biology, oceanography, marine geology, law, economics, marine management and other fields.

Coordinated by the lecturer Galderic Lastras, from the Department of Earth and Ocean Dynamics, the degree is structured under 240 credits, organized in four courses (30 credits per semester). The studies want to train the students to use, in the public and private sectors, their professional skills related to a working sector which is highly demanding and which is constantly growing, connected with the field of management and exploitation of natural resources, preservation and protection of the marine environment, management of coasts and seafloors, operational oceanography, scientific research and teaching, among others. This academic year 2019/2020, the degree of Marine Sciences has a total of 245 enrolled students.
