"Mare i filla" and "Competència: el moment de la vertat" win the fotoNAT-UB 2019 contest

Mare i filla, by Pablo Bou (PAS at the Faculty of Biology) was awarded the first prize in the category of wildlife, in the thirteenth edition of the wildlife photography contest fotoNAT-UB, a contest launched by the Animal Biodiversity Resource Center of the UB (CRBA). In the category of zoology, the first prize was awarded to Competència: el moment de la veritat, by Marc Ruiz, student of the bachelorʼs degree on Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Biology.

 

The award ceremony for fotoNAT-UB took place on Tuesday, December 17, at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biology. Among the attendants were the vice-dean of Research of the Faculty of Biology, Maria Isabel Muñoz; the director of CRBA, lecturer Antoni Serra; Gustavo Llorente, from the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences and the Biodiversity Research Institute of the UB (IRBio), and Neus Carbó, secretary of the Faculty and head of the Area of Doctoral Studies and Equality.

Mare i filla, by Pablo Bou (PAS at the Faculty of Biology) was awarded the first prize in the category of wildlife, in the thirteenth edition of the wildlife photography contest fotoNAT-UB, a contest launched by the Animal Biodiversity Resource Center of the UB (CRBA). In the category of zoology, the first prize was awarded to Competència: el moment de la veritat, by Marc Ruiz, student of the bachelorʼs degree on Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Biology.

 

The award ceremony for fotoNAT-UB took place on Tuesday, December 17, at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biology. In the category of wildlife, the other awardees are: Joan de la Malla, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses (second prize to Camí a la llibertat); Kike Herrero Casas, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses (honourable mention, El cel fos del Pallars); Anabel Vidaña, former student of the wildlife photography courses (accessit, Esperant la nit); Jordi Cañizares, student of the bachelorʼs degree on Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (honourable mention, Entranyes de la Terra) and Pepe Bosch, member of PDI at the Department of Electronic and Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Physics (honourable mention, Eclipsi).


In the category of zoology, the awardees were Jan Korba, sudent of the masterʼs degree on Biodiversity at the Faculty of Biology (second prize, Lʼenlairament); David Torrents, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses (honourable mention, Mind the crab!); Elisa Mora, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography (honourable mention, La vida de Mahango); Raül Rodríguez, student of the bachelorʼs degree on Marine Sciences at the Faculty of Earth Sciences (honourable mention, La fugida del Phalacrocorax carbo), and David Lecegui, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses (honourable mention, Bechplaners sota els núvols).


The new edition of fotoNAT-UB gathered 134 participants, who submitted a total of 251 photographs (107 in the category of wildlife and 144 in zoology). The awards in this edition honoured the top photographs in the category of zoology (animal photography) and wildlife (natural landscapes or slightly modified landscapes, geology, wild flora and fauna).

 

This year, there were 68 students, 5 UB Alumni members, 30 former students from CRBA courses, 12 PAS members and 19 PDI members. The awarded works and all finalists can be seen in the CRBA headquarters, at the Faculty of Biology, and in the website of the center.
