About a hundred professional nurses, lecturers and students attended the session, opened by M. Furthermore, Paz Fernández commented on the strategic and specialized training of nurses and highlighted we need “new roles and leaders to adapt the changes of the future”. Also, Marta Sancho presented the evolution of this profession regarding research and doctoral studies, showing everything the field of nursing has achieved over the last forty years.

In the opening conference, Azuzena Santillán, member of Ciencia en el Parlamento, encouraged the professionals of the nursing field to use evidence as a method and insisted on the importance of “scientific rigor applied to people and societyʼs cures”. She said the global program Nursing Now “is about involving professionals in the social and political life of the community and changing the perception of nursing as a light science, while elevating the status and profile of nurses in the field of health”.
