UB lecturer Jorge Wagensberg (1948-2018) was honored by the Barcelona City Council with the Gold Medal for scientific merit to award his career on science and his contribution to high-level science dissemination. The award also honors the permanent dialogue he setbetween science and other disciplines such as literature and arts.

In the award ceremony, last March 5, the mayor Ada Colau gave the award to the family members and noted that Wagensberg was “without any doubt, one of those people who worked the hardest in order to put science -and interest in science- at everyoneʼs reach, with passion, as well as the university and dissemination, the Museum of Science, and lived with passion every challenge he faced”.

The lecturer and science disseminator Wagensberg studied Physics at the University of Barcelona, where he got his doctoral studies and worked as lecturer, between 1971 and 2016. In 1991, he created the Museum of Sciences of Barcelona and was its director until 2005. He also led the renewal of this project until it became the current CosmoCaixa, a model for other science museums worldwide, with its headquarters in Barcelona and Madrid. Wagensberg, who always combined teaching with his passion for science dissemination, is the author of many volumes, ranging from scientific studies edited in specialized publications as well as popular science works.
