The eleventh edition of the International Conference of University Teaching and Innovation (CIDUI), organized by the eight Catalan public universities, had to be held on July but with an attendance of more than half a thousand experts from the field of higher education. However, the health crisis made it impossible.

Despite the circumstances, the conference, a place for reflection and innovation on university teaching which became a distinguished event over twenty years of history, could not be missed because of the difficulties of this time. Therefore, on July 1 and 2, ten online sessions will be held, open for everyone and free of charge, in order to give voice to lecturers from around the world, share strategies and initiate transforming reflections in the long-term. In order to attend, participants need to fill in the inscription form in the website.

In the first session, on Wednesday, July 1, at 4 p.m., Professor Peter Mathieson, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, will give the international conference “Alternative models to address a hybrid university system”, to analyse from a global view, the several options of a university system model that we can consider to be hybrid. This session will be presented by the rector of the Rovira i Virgili University and president of ACCUP, M. José Figueras.

In the second session, on July 2, at 4 p.m., Professor Hugo Pardo, from Outliers School, and Linda Castañeda, from the University of Murcia, will take part in a dialogue titled “The evolution of the student-teacher binomial in the new context”. The dialogue will be chaired by Josep Joan Moreso, professor of Legal Philosophy at the Pompeu Fabra University and president of AQU Catalunya.

The universities are now in a specially complex position, given the challenges from the processes of social, economic and technological transformation, plus those derived from COVID-19. Therefore, CIDUI 2020 aims to promote dialogue not only among teaching teams but also among the students, governing teams, and the administrative and management teams, since there are new realities in all the dimensions of the university system.

Like in previous editions, the symposium will count on the participation of the President of ACUP and the Secretary of Universities and Research, Francesc Xavier Grau.

The quality of the university teaching and educational innovation has always been a key element of interest for the Catalan public universities. As a result of this joint interest, in 2000, the first edition of CIDUI was held: a meeting which became an agora for teaching innovation with a wide recognition at a national and international scale.
