When facing a cancer diagnosis, the patient has many doubts about the treatment to fight the illness, as well as the new daily life, and the changes she or he should make to eat properly. Having a good diet is one of the premises to keep a good nutritional state to help tolerate oncological treatments.

This is the main objective of the audiovisual project “Què i com menjar durant el càncer” (what and how to eat during cancer), an initiative specially aimed at oncològic patients, family members and professionals of the health field to be broadcasted on October 5, through the program schedule of Xarxa de Comunicació Local (XAL).

When facing a cancer diagnosis, the patient has many doubts about the treatment to fight the illness, as well as the new daily life, and the changes she or he should make to eat properly. This initiative wants to share general guidelines on healthy diets during the oncologic illness -and once it is over as well-, without replacing any instructions from the experts that treat each patient. It is promoted by Anna Tresserra, lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the UB, and Raúl Zamora, lecturer at the same faculty and principal researcher at the Unit of Nutrition and Cancer at ICO-IDIBELL.

The project “What and how to eat during cancer” counts on the support from distinguished experts on nutrition and oncology of the UB, the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL), the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), the Alícia Foundationand the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute (IISPV), apart from the staff from radio and television from the Xarxa de Comunicació Local, a content and services multimedia platform available to all the media of the country.

From a disseminative perspective, each video will talk about recipes and eating guidelines that are planned to avoid adverse effects of the oncologic treatments (vomiting, appetite loss, dysphagia, etc.) and improve the patientsʼ nutritional state.

Also, the content will include nutritional advice, reports, and information to debunk false myths on nutrition and the illness through the voice of experts from the field of nutrition and oncologic treatments.
