Research Fair Live: from quantum physics to the secret language of fruits

Live Research Fair aims to bring science closer to people, ease the dialogue between the audience and the researchers, and promote scientific vocations among young people.

Sending encrypted messages through quantum physics, decoding the secret language of fruits and vegetables or finding out how to encapsulate a drug in a nanoparticle so that it reaches a specific part of the human body: these are some of the scientific experiments for the attendees of the 18th Research Fair Live, from April 27 to 30, organized by the Barcelona Science Parka and La Caixa Foundation.

In the Fair, more than a hundred researchers from eleven Catalan leading centres will bring their laboratories to the CosmoCaixa, to invite citizens to take part in their research projects and solve enigmas through the scientific method. Regarding the UB research, the MAiMA - Stable Isotopes and Mineralogy UB Research Group (which has the TECNIO label), will treat the use of underwater as a hydric resource, while the Lichenology Group will bring us closer to the world of biology and the ecology of lichens.

Games, camera and action!

This year, the Fair offers two parallel activities to the scientific exhibition. In the space És necessary el 100% del talent! the attendees will find those researchers who are referents in certain research fields, to break with sexist stereotypes and the gender roles in science. Moreover, on Saturday, April 30, at 11:00 a.m., the attendees will enjoy a scientific monologue by the chemist Oriol Marimón, from the Big Van Ciencia group, in a theatre show full of humour to disseminate research in a fun way.

A guided tour took place during the inauguration of the Fair this morning. Among the attendees were Joan Guàrdia, rector of the University of Barcelona; Olga Lanau, general director of the UB Group; Maria Terrades, general director of the Barcelona Science Park; Ignasi Miró, corporate director of Culture and Science in La Caixa Foundation; Anna Font, director of the Department of Cultural and Scientific Activities of La Caixa Foundation; and Valentí Farràs, director of CosmoCaixa.
