Digital education and privacy rights: possible combination?

The University of Barcelona is hosting, on 12, 13 and 14 July, the 1st International Course on Democratic Digital Education and Open Edtech, to take place in the Aula Magna of the Historical Building. The aim is to show the challenges presented by the combination of the continuing digitalization of education and the protection of certain user rights, such as privacy.

Organized by XNET, Open Knowledge Foundation and the UB, the course will analyse how to advance in a democratic digitalization without putting the citizensʼ digital rights at risk.

Ignasi Labastida, Delegate of the Rector for Open Science at the University of Barcelona, will open the course, which will include the participation of Simona Levi, founder of the Institute for Democratic Digitalization Xnet and coordinator of the UB postgraduate studies in Technopolitics and Rights in the Digital Era; Joan Cuevas, director-general for Innovation, Digitalization and  Curriculum at the Department of Education of the Catalan Government; Arnau Monterde, director of the Service of Democratic Innovation at the Department of Culture, Education, Science and Community of the Barcelona City Council, and Michael Donaldson, commissioner of Digital Innovation, Electronic Administration and Good Governance at the Area of Agenda 2030, Digital Transition, Sports and Territorial and Metropolitan Coordination of the Barcelona City Council.   

The UB has been committed to provide open-access educational resources since 2003. Its Digital Repository is the institutional repository that contains under digital format, the open-access publications derived from the teaching and research activities. A continuous task which aims to continue working to promote open-access resources without putting the usersʼ digital rights at risk.
