Elias Rogent Amat, portrait

Portrait of Elias Rogent Amat, oil on canvas, by Federico de Madrazo, c. 1861.

Elias Rogent (1821-1897) was the first important architect of the first Romantic period. The diverse nature of his profile (he was a teacher, restorer, historian and, above all, an architect) is also reflected in the great variety of architectural designs he created, some with great architectural and urban impact, such as the University of Barcelona building, and other more modest ones.
