The “Literary University” was one of Elias Rogent's most important projects and one of the most outstanding buildings in the city of the time. Although it was not officially opened until the course 1872-1873, the first classes could be given there in 1871. Because of the 1888 Universal Exhibition, some areas, such as Plaça de Catalunya and other central areas of the Eixample like Plaça de la Universitat received particular special treatment.
