Nurses exhibition

The Faculty of Nursing of the University of Barcelona joins the celebration of International Nursing Day with a program of activities that combine dissemination, reflection and culture, with the aim of highlighting the nursing profession and the fundamental role of care in society.

Within the framework of this day, and within the programming of the 575th anniversary of the UB, Dr. Laura Martínez, professor of the Faculty and responsible for the heritage collection that guards the center, promotes the exhibition "Nurses", which can be visited from May 12 to October 25, 2026 at the Museum of L'Hospitalet - L'Harmonia. The exhibition, included in the museum’s cultural programme, offers a critical and at the same time sensitive look at an often invisible reality: the essential role of nurses in sustaining life and the health system.

This exhibition is an invitation to look at what is often out of focus: the invisible plot of care that makes shared life possible. Nurses not only accompany the disease, but also guard the fragility, watch over life and inhabit the spaces where the body and suffering become more present. The objects shown here —instruments, books, models, images— are not just remnants of the past. They are fragments of a long, patient and deep history, woven mostly by women. A story that has grown between silences, often subordinated, often invisible, traversed by gender relations that have hidden the value of their knowledge.

In this sense, the exhibition also incorporates a contemporary and vindicative dimension: the objects exhibited stop being only witnesses of the past to become active elements of social reflection, questioning the citizens about the structural value of care and the need to recognize them as the fundamental basis of any society.

The exhibition officially opens on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Harmony space of the Museum of L'Hospitalet, in an institutional act with representatives of the academic and institutional field. The celebration continues on Saturday, May 16, 2026, within the framework of the Night of Music in the Museums, with a concert by the group Nurse Rock Club, formed by members of the Faculty of Nursing, which will take place at 22.00 h in the History Museum of L'Hospitalet.
