Edgar Gili

Edgar Gili (Barcelona, 1985) is a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Barcelona.

He holds a BA in Philosophy (UB, 2008), a MA in Contemporary Thought (UB, 2009), a MA in Teacher Training in Philosophy (UB, 2013), and a PhD in Contemporary Philosophy and Classical Studies (UB, 2021).

He has worked as a philosophy teacher in high school education and as a professor of philosophical anthropology at La Salle Ramon Llull University. Since 2014, he has been a professor in the Department of Philosophy at the UB, where he has taught in the Philosophy degree (Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Culture, Philosophical Problems I), in the Philosophy Specialization of the Master’s in Teacher Training (Ethics Supplements, Practicum II, Master’s Thesis, academic coordination), and in several University Extension Courses (Filosofia Perenne, Universitat de l’Experiència, Gaudir UB).

He is the author of teaching materials, book chapters, articles in specialized journals, and conference presentations, and is a member of the Aporia research group.

Areas of study:

Drawing on his teaching experience and the study of various contemporary philosophical figures (Nietzsche, Ortega y Gasset, Heidegger, Foucault, P. Hadot, Deleuze, Sloterdijk, etc.), his research has focused on the fields of philosophy and history of education, cultural philosophy, philosophical anthropology, and ancient philosophy. A good example of this is his work on ancient philosophical education based on a study of the work of Michel Foucault.
