Books for all Initiative
Why Picture Books Matter - And Why We're Sharing Them with the World
At ITAP, we believe picture books are far more than stories for children. They are powerful tools for learning, connection, and imagination—for people of all ages.
In a world that's reading less and scrolling more, we're on a mission:
To show how picture books can teach first and second languages, celebrate diverse cultures and families, build empathy, raise awareness about the environment and global conflicts, and open doors to critical thinking through words and art.
Too often, picture books are dismissed as something only for small children. But we know better. These books are rich with meaning. They speak across generations, break down barriers, and bring big ideas to life through storytelling and illustration.
The challenge we face
Today, reading comprehension levels are dropping.
And in many schools, there simply aren’t enough books, resources, or guidance for teachers to fully explore the potential of picture books.
We want to change that.
We want to change that.
What are we doing?
Here’s how we’re bringing picture books to life—and making them accessible to more people:
1. Open-Access YouTube Videos
We’re teaming up with authors and illustrators to create engaging videos that tell stories and offer creative ways to explore them in the classroom. Everyone is welcome—teachers, families, and curious minds.
2. Free Educational Resources
We're designing adaptable, open-access teaching materials that educators around the world can use and shape to fit their students' needs.
3. Books for Underserved Schools
We’re working locally to donate illustrated books and teaching materials to schools with limited resources—because every child deserves access to stories.
Who's involved?
We’re proud to collaborate with:
• Renowned writers and illustrators
• Teachers and researchers from international universities
• Primary and secondary school educators
• Literary mediators, independent bookstores, and publishers who specialize in picture books
Together, we're building a community that believes in the power of storytelling—with words and images.
