
Miquel Planas has been a Professor of Sculpture at the University of Barcelona since 2003, developing a distinguished career that combines teaching, research, and artistic practice. He is a member of consolidated research groups such as BRAC and CRECS, highlighting his commitment to interdisciplinary research. He has supervised 24 doctoral theses and is currently directing five more, and has been awarded five research assessment periods and six teaching assessment periods.
His research focuses on public sculpture, sculptural processes, and the relationship between art and urban space, contributing to both theoretical and applied perspectives. He collaborates with numerous national and international academic institutions, participating in master’s programs in art, design, architecture, landscape, and ceramics. He also serves as editor of the scientific journal BRAC and as an advisor in communication design initiatives.
Planas has completed research residencies in international centers in the Netherlands, France, Morocco, and China, reinforcing his global outlook. In the professional field, he has collaborated with companies in design, lighting, landscape, and advertising.
As an artist, he has held over 50 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 150 group exhibitions, and has created numerous public sculptures and works held in collections and institutions.
