Clinical Studies

We lead or collaborate as strategic partners in various clinical studies, both interventional and observational, in the fields of Precision Nutrition and Precision Medicine.

Targeted metabolomics can identify unique metabolic profiles associated with specific diseases, enabling earlier and more accurate diagnoses — such as the identification of biomarkers for diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular, or neurodegenerative diseases.

It can also be used to predict disease progression and treatment response, or contribute to personalized medicine by identifying metabolites that predict the efficacy or toxicity of therapies in specific individuals.

Clinical Intervention Studies

Microbiome manipulation through Polyphenols for managing gut Leakiness in the Elderly (MaPLE)

Gut and blood microbiomics for studying the effect of a polyphenol-rich dietary pattern on intestinal permeability in the elderly.
Learn More

Diet x gut microbiome-based metabotypes to determine cardio-metabolic risk and tailor intervention strategies for improved health (DiGuMet)

DiGuMet aimed to explore how the gut microbiota interacts with diet and the role of these interactions in the risk of cardiometabolic diseases.

Tailored Carbohydrate Quality for Personalized Weight Management and Metabolic Health (Carb-Q-4-Health)

This project explores the impact of carbohydrate quality (CQ) on weight regulation, appetite control, and cardiometabolic health in humans, along with the underlying biological mechanisms by which CQ influences metabolic responses.

Influence of Anthocyanin metabotype after ingestion of grape/blueberry-extract over 4 weeks on cancer cell migration in-vitro (ATTACH)

To identify the ACNs and metabolites produced following a 4-week intervention with an anthocyanin-rich juice, and to assess their potential anticancer effects.

EPIC-Europe: Cancer and Nutrition

EPIC-Europe is a prospective study in which data are collected at the time of recruitment, before participants develop cancer. The evidence generated by the EPIC-Europe study provides governments and public health officials with the knowledge necessary to implement actions aimed at preventing cancer and other chronic diseases.
