The professor of the degree in Communication and Cultural Industries, Jordi Hernández, participates in the presentation day of the "Story in Sight" initiative through which the University of Barcelona will host workshops aimed at students

The technology company Xiaomi, with the help of the prestigious photojournalist linked to the Leica Akademie, Giuseppe Nucci, has launched the "Xiaomi Education - Story in Sight" project, an innovative series of photography workshops that aims to equip young people with tools and knowledge in the world of visual storytelling.

To carry out this initiative, the multinational has reached an agreement with the University of Barcelona so that students from the Faculty of Philology and Communication, the Faculty of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media can participate in these workshops, which will be held in the month of November. The University of Barcelona thus becomes the first university institution to join this proposal to provide students with tools and skills to deepen their knowledge in the field of digital photography. Dr. Javier Orduña, coordinator of Chinese universities at the Vice-Rectorate for International Policy and professor at the Faculty of Philology and Communication at the University of Barcelona, expressed the university's expectations: "We are delighted to host the 'Story in Sight' workshops at the University of Barcelona".

The degree in Communication and Cultural Industries of the Faculty of Philology and Communication will host the first workshops

On Friday, 24 November and December 1, as part of the subject "(Post)photography and Communication" of the degree in Communication and Cultural Industries, taught by professor Jordi Hernández, the first sessions of the workshop will be held linked to the initiative "Story in Sight", classes in which the photojournalist Guiseppe Nucci will share his knowledge with the students.

Precisely, Nucci and Hernández were two of the participants in the presentation of the project, which took place on September 25 in Berlin. In a round table, they both reflected on the use of smartphones to learn photography. The professor of the degree in Communication and Cultural Industries emphasized that smart devices have been deeply integrated into the teaching of photography, not only as support tools but also to create final works. As he explained: "Before, even if the students were not asked to do it, they used them", and he added that this fact "made it clear that it was a relevant tool for the students". In addition, Hernández also emphasized the importance of being able to have tools so that the students learn the essence of photography, since many of them are not familiar with professional equipment, due to price or availability, but the use of mobile, for them, is almost innate. According to the professor of the Degree in Communication and Cultural Industries: "the democratization of access to photography is such an important advantage that it mitigates the possible risks", he stressed.
