Welcome

The Wavefront Engineering Group is a research unit within the Department of Applied Physics, Universitat de Barcelona. We are a small group of six people working in imaging and physical optics problems:

  1. Our main target is the design, experimental implementation and characterization of highly focused electromagnetic fields in the focal area. We have developed a notable expertise manipulating the complex amplitude and polarization of light using computer-generated holograms displayed on spatial light modulators.
  2. Counterfeit detection of optical codes and other optical security problems is also one of our priorities. On the one hand, we use machine learning techniques to authenticate optically encoded information with a high degree of confidence. On the other, we develop encryption systems using focused beams with elliptical polarization.
  3. The measure of polarization in low light conditions can be challenging. We analyze this issue using 3D integral imaging techniques.
