Students in possession of academic documents issued outside Spain that are required by the UB for administrative purposes must ensure that they have original copies issued by the competent authorities, in accordance with the applicable legal framework in the country of issue. In most cases, these documents must be translated and legalized.

Certified copies

Concept

A certified copy of an original document is a copy that bears an endorsement or certification that it is a true copy of the original.

Certified copies accepted

Certified copies can be obtained from:

  • Any office of the UB's General Registry. It is advisable to obtain copies from the office at the faculty to which the documentation will be submitted.
  • The University of Barcelona Doctoral School (EDUB), in the case of documentation required to support a request for homologation of a doctoral degree qualification.
  • A notary public registered in Spain.
  • The Spanish diplomatic or consular authorities outside Spain.

IMPORTANT: In the case of documents requiring legalization, the corresponding certification or apostille must be attached to the original document, and the interested party must submit a certified copy of the complete document, including all text relating to the legalization procedure.
