Ira Washington Rubel
L'home àmpliament aclamat durant dues dècades com el "inventor de la impressió offset" i tan acreditat en les històries d'impressió i enciclopèdies és menys esmentat avui, i el seu nom ha estat eliminat d'algunes referències noves. La controvèrsia per atorgar-li crèdit ha tendit a enfosquir el treball que va fer per presentar la impressió offset en paper en aquest país (Estats Units) i a Europa. Aquest home, el nom del qual avui no és conegut per molts impressors, va ser Ira Washington Rubel de Chicago. [...] Quan Ira W. Rubel, un impressor de Nova Jersey, va descobrir que podia imprimir en una manta de goma i després compensar la impressió en gairebé qualsevol tipus de paper, va imprimir a la superfície l'eina que havia de canviar les formes més antigues de fotolitografia en el mòdem de procés de planografia ràpida.

The man widely acclaimed for two decades as the “inventor of offset printing” and so credited in histories of printing and in encyclopedias is less mentioned today, and his name has been removed from some new references. Controversy over giving him credit has tended to obscure the work he did to introduce offset printing on paper in this country and in Europe. That man, whose name is not known to many printers today, was Ira Washington Rubel of Chicago. [...] When Ira W. Rubel, a New Jersey printer, discovered he could print onto a rubber blanket and then offset the impression on almost any kind of paper, he gave surface printing the tool which was to change the older forms of photolithography into the modem rapid planograph process.
